Here is a little info on this magnificent country. Namibia
is a country virtually as big in size as its southern neighbour,
yet it has a population of just over 1 million, compared to
42 million in South Africa. It’s largest city, Windhoek,
has less than 100 000 citizens, yet the colourful mix of its
people represent more than 12 distinctly different African
heritages, not to speak of those of European origin.
Having been a German colony until the First
World War, when it was annexed by South Africa, the German
influence can still be strongly felt in the daily life of
this newly independent country (1990), be it the names of
the streets, the architecture, the food in the shops and bakeries
and butcheries, even to the Karnival celebrated every April.
What attracts most visitors to Namibia, however, are the Namib
Desert and the outstanding wildlife reserve, called the ETOSHA
PAN, a huge expanse of land in the north of the country, dominated
by a central saltpan, usually dry, yet teaming with animals.
