CLASSIC/OLDTIMER CAR TOURS

CLASSIC CARS TO CHOOSE FROM FOR YOUR TOUR

Classic / Oldtimer Car Tours

We organize unique 1 day and 3-4 day tours for individuals or large groups to some of the Cape's most beautiful sites by a selection of beautiful Classic Cars. For example, we can either go on day-tours to lovely picnic places spotted around the Peninsula, or go on a 3-4 day tour, overnighting each at Kleinmond, Hermanus, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, for example.

Here are a few examples of what we have available:-
- Ford 1929 A-Model;
- Two-seater Roadster and a four-seater Phaeton;
- 1957 Ford Fairlane;
- 1958 Jaguar Mark 8 ;
- Merc 1958 220S and a MB 180 from 1960;
- and to top it all, a 1963 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.

Some of these models are cabriolets (the '29 Fords) and thus weather dependent, but we will always be flexible to make alternative arrangements. PLEASE NOTE: There is a wide selection of classic cars available on request. All oldtimers are driven by their owners.

2 Sample Day Tours available to travel around Cape Town and surrounds in an antique car or ‘oldtimer’ (click here to download the powerpoint brochure)
1. Cape Peninsula
2. Winelands

1. Cape Peninsula

We pick you up at the hotel with an Oldtimer at about 09h00 and drive along the Atlantic coast via Sea Point, Bantry Bay to Camps Bay, where we will stop for a photo-opportunity of the Twelve Apostles.

From there we drive to Hout Bay and along the most picturesque coastal road in South Africa, the Chapmans Peak Drive, via Noordhoek, Kommetjie and Scarborough to the Ostrich Farm close to the entrance of the Cape Point National Park, where we will have a light lunch.

Then we proceed to the Cape Point, the last stretch by funicular and about 100 steps to the highest point. After that we drive to the Cape of Good Hope, the most south western point of the Cape Peninsula.

And now we slowly drive along the False Bay coast to the Penguin Colony in Simonstown, the Naval Headquarters of South Africa. From there we proceed via Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg to Groot Constantia, the oldest Wine Estate in South Africa, and time permitting, we can end the day with a visit to the world renowned botanical garden Kirstenbosch. We will drop off our valued guests at the hotel at about 17h00.]

2. Winelands

We will pick you up at the hotel with oldtimers at about 09h00 and drive on the N2 national road to Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West. From there we will proceed on the R44 to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, which also has an University, do an one hour city tour by foot and proceed via the University Campus via Hellshoogte Pass to Franschhoek (“the French Corner”).

On our way to Franschhoek we will stop over at Tokara, Zorgvliet or Boschendal for a winetasting and perhaps light lunch….

We could also have our lunch in Franschhoek, followed by a short city tour and the Huguenot Memorial. We then proceed to the new Franschhoek Motor Museum, a collection of about 200 Oldtimers on the L’Ormarin Wine Estate belonging to the Rupert Family.

To conclude the day we will drive to Paarl to the Fairview Wine Estate for a last wine and cheese tasting, where after we proceed on the N1 back to your hotel in Cape Town, with drop off at about 17h30.

(Every last Sunday of the month, the "Crankhandle Club" of Cape Town meets, when everyone arrives in their respective collector's piece and much palaver goes on about this and that.)

N.B. For obvious reasons, we cannot arrange long distance trips with the oldtimers; in any event, who wants to sit in the car all day long when such beautiful sites beckon to be visited?!

HERE IS SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT WHICH WE CAN ALSO ARRANGE FOR YOU !

South Africa is world-famous as one of the last outposts of the glorious old steam engine trains. There are a number of destinations available in the Cape or along the Garden Route, including a trip to Darling during the spring flower season or a trip to the magnificent Spier Wine Estate including a classical concert under the stars, sipping a Chardonnay or a Cape Classic. This can be combined with transfers by oldtimers to and from the station.
